Chimney Level 2 Inspection
A Level 2 chimney inspection is the most comprehensive standard inspection defined by NFPA 211, and the one most likely to reveal conditions that a basic Level 1 visual check would miss. It's required when there's been any change to the chimney system — a new or replaced appliance, a change in fuel type, or any event that may have affected structural integrity such as a chimney fire, severe weather event, or seismic activity. It's also the inspection standard required for real estate transactions and following any period of extended non-use.
Mesa Splendid Chimney Service's Level 2 inspection covers everything included in a Level 1 — visual examination of all readily accessible exterior and interior components — plus access to areas including the attic, basement, and crawl spaces where the chimney passes through, and crucially, a video scan of the full flue interior. The video scan is what distinguishes a Level 2 from a Level 1 in terms of diagnostic depth: it reveals the condition of the liner throughout its length, identifies cracking or joint failure in sections of the flue that cannot be seen from the firebox or the chimney top, and provides documented visual evidence of the flue's condition at the time of inspection.
Our Level 2 inspection concludes with a detailed written report covering every component assessed, the condition finding for each, any video footage highlights relevant to the assessment, specific recommendations for any deficiencies found, and a clear categorisation of urgency for each recommendation. This report is produced to the standard appropriate for insurance purposes, real estate transactions, and regulatory compliance documentation. On-site within 2 to 3 hours. (602) 932-9339.
